Way TMI for here, but have a look at this piece for a better description of "WHY" (between the italicized intro and first illustration): https://garyblaise.medium.com/dark-matter-a-shy-unicorn-4667ae72073b.
It’s an idea about what causes both the warping and the subsequent motion of objects in warped space.
Summary: Grains of (quantized) space consist of unmeasured s/t properties. The grains are larger than particles so, when a grain receives measured values for its properties, it collapses down to a discrete particle. This leaves an otherwise “vacuum” around the newly-emergent particle toward which surrounding grains are pulled and elongated (warped, as you say). The elongation event is an idea of motion in each of the saffected grains toward the particle and this idea becomes just one more potential s/t property in each of the surrounding grains. Later, when an elongated grain is collapsed, the resulting particle will express the grain’s idea of motion and evolve (“move”) in the direction of the previously-emergent particle. The cumulative effect of many elongated grains collapsing to a discrete object brings about the effects of gravity which you are able to observe.
